Even though the build took a couple of months longer than planned – due to a lockdown, delays in getting materials, and some severe weather events – the experience has been a very positive one for us. It's the first time we've been involved in a new build and it's been largely stress-free.

The company prides itself on the quality of its work, and it's been very evident throughout that the written guarantees have been backed up in reality. One example of this is the painstaking attention given to the exterior and interior stonework which helps make the house look like it belongs in the alpine environment.

Because we don't live in Hanmer, the timely and detailed communications – mostly via Buildertrend – have been essential. The regular photos and videos have been excellent. We especially appreciated the open and direct responses to questions we had or issues we wanted to raise. And another feature of the communication was the transparency by the team members when something wasn't up to standard or a mistake had been made (noting that the problems were few and far between).

We would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Wilson Construction to other potential clients, and actually did just that during our first visit when someone turned up at the door and asked us about our experience. We said: “In one word – excellent”.

This was our first ever house build which could have been a really stressful experience, David and his team were fantastic at walking us through each step of the building process. We were really excited to visit the site and see the progress, one of David’s team would greet us as we arrived and take the time to walk us around the house to show us what they were doing. They would happily answer any questions we had along the way and with this being our first ever build, we had a lot! Small changes or adjustments that resulted from these visits probably caused them a headache, but they never let us see that.

The quality of their workmanship and the care David, Ryan, Warren, Tyler and Jake took building our home was exceptional, even the building inspector commented on it. Everyone on the team has been fantastic to work with throughout the project.

Our home wasn’t a standard build and does have some angles and extra features such as Hydronic underfloor heating and polished concrete floors. David’s team took these aspects of our build in their stride to ensure they were well protected throughout the build.

When you are building a new home there are a lot of decisions to make and David gave us a build schedule and highlighted when we would need to make decisions on certain aspects of the house such as paint and stain colours, door styles and door hardware. It really took the stress out of the process.

The home that David and his team have created for us is everything we hoped for. We moved in in June 2018 and our favourite feature would have to be the underfloor heating. To have a constant temperature throughout the house and warm feet is heaven and well worth the money. To be honest, though, we love everything about this house and to have a first build that was pretty much on budget and no major setbacks has meant we have thoroughly enjoyed the process.

A member of New Zealand Certified Builders Association since July 2016, Wilson Construction saw the benefits of being involved with Certified Plans at a very early stage and joined the scheme in December 2016. Certified Plans is a members benefit of NZCB offering a collection of 32 different architecturally designed plans that are ready to build or can be customised to suit a particular lifestyle.

Seeing a niche market in Hanmer Springs for a variety of easily laid out plans, coupled with the flexibility of plan design and systems, Wilson Construction made the most of this opportunity and became proactive using the Certified Plans initiative as intended by the Association.

To date, David has built four homes from the Certified Plans collection ranging from 140m2 to 240m2 and all tailored to suit individual requirements & specific locations. Three of these client builds came directly from leads generated & followed up by the sales system attached to the scheme.

So impressed by the enthusiasm and results David has achieved in such a short time by maximising the Certified Plans initiative, NZCB has recently completed an article on Wilson Construction to be printed in their bi monthly In House magazine. We wish David well with future Certified Plan builds.

We’ve met David when we were looking for a property in Hanmer Springs for our retirement. David was happy to have a look at the plans and give us some advice on what was possible and what not.

Once we decided we would like to build a house, David helped us find the architect and was involved in the entire process – from design through approvals and choosing appliances and finishing’s. During the construction stage, David talked us through each step and was flexible in making any changes that were required.

As we were not in New Zealand during the build, we had access to the Buildertrend app where we could check on the progress and see photos and relevant documents. The work is of the highest standard, so now we have a beautiful house that we will be able to enjoy when retirement comes.

David’s involvement did not stop after the keys were delivered, but he kept in touch and if there was anything that we needed or small adjustments, he was always involved and happy to help.

David’s quote was very competitive so price was not an issue compared to other quotes. However, David had the advantage in that we knew the excellent standard of workmanship from the previous job. This gave us a degree of confidence that the result would be excellent.

David was a lot of help making minor adjustments during the building process.

We are extremely happy with the final result. The design from Threefold Architecture complemented by the building workmanship of Wilson Construction make the house a very enjoyable place to live in.

Working with David was very easy. The build was always under control and we were kept abreast of any parts of the building that may have needed our input. If there was an issue David always had a options/solutions.

Because we live in Christchurch we had only limited contact with David’s team. However, the result speaks for itself, and David and his team we congratulate on a job well done.

Wilson Construction being based in Hanmer is a big plus. We know from previous builds that there can be issues if the builder is based outside of Hanmer.

We are new to the Hanmer area and had concerns about hiring tradesmen in a new community, however these concerns were soon diminished.

Your professionalism, integrity and communication gave us tremendous peace of mind from our initial meeting right through the whole process, couple that with your patience in answering any queries we had and communicating regularly with us made the process smooth and exciting.

We are really happy with our new holiday home in Hanmer Springs built by Wilson Construction. The home is finished to an extremely high standard and the attention to detail is superb. As we don’t live in Hanmer Springs we were concerned about not being close enough to get to the site as often as we would like.

However, the communication throughout from David and his team was extremely good. The use of the highly innovative “Buildertrend” app meant that we received regular updates throughout the progress of our build including uploaded photos, so we were able to see the progress for ourselves. It gave us great peace of mind.

Our build was rather complex as the site is on a steep hill but Wilson Construction took it all in their stride and we now have a stunning home that we are extremely proud of with incredible views over Hanmer Springs.
